Sermon Title: God's Way That's Been Made For Us
Date: September 1952
Code: 52-0900
About This Sermon:
In this message William Branham opens with a prayer of thanksgiving and a moving tribute to his son Billy Paul, who had just received the Holy Ghost a few hours before — the answer to a prayer his mother had cried out at her death. He then reads Isaiah 35, the chapter of the desert blossoming as the rose, the ears of the deaf unstopped, the lame man leaping as an hart, and the highway of holiness where the redeemed walk and sorrow and sighing flee away.
He takes his text from that highway and calls it "God's Way That's Been Made For Us." His argument is simple and steady: there are only two ways, your way and God's way, and your way is always the wrong way. He shows that God has always made a provided way — through the Red Sea, through the bitter waters of Marah, through the wilderness by the Pillar of Fire — and that there are no shortcuts in the Kingdom. He traces man's long attempt to make his own way, from Adam's fig leaves and Cain's altar of vegetables to the religious spirit that lives in the churches today, and he warns plainly that a shallow religion will not work when a man comes to the end of the road.
From there the message opens into a series of illustrations that have become among the most quoted in the entire 1952 record. He speaks of the little duck that has never been off the pond, and yet, when the first frost touches the mountain, rises without a compass and flies straight to the rice fields of Louisiana — because it goes God's provided way. He speaks of the old sow carrying the shucks to the south side of the hill because she knows the north wind is coming, and he says that if a hog has sense enough to hide from the breeze, what about a man with the Holy Ghost. He walks through the lions' den, the fiery furnace, and Noah's ark, and he paints the scene of Michael and Wormwood standing before the Throne while the Hebrew children walk up the gangplank — until the Lord Himself rides a thunderhead down to Babylon and fans the breeze off of them. He tells of Elijah at the brook Cherith and the ravens bringing his meals, and of the widow of Zarephath and the barrel that never ran empty.
He then turns to Lazarus and the Shunammite, and to Martha's words, "Even now, whatever You ask God, God will do it." He answers the Christian Science claim that Jesus was only a man because He wept at the grave: he was a man when He wept, but He was God when He said, "Lazarus, come forth." He was a man when He was hungry on the mountain, but He was God when He fed five thousand. He was a man when He slept in the boat, but He was God when He said, "Peace, be still." And he closes with the wise men following the Star without a compass, with Jairus and the woman with the blood issue, and with blind Bartimaeus — whose lamb led him to the temple, and who said, "God will provide a lamb for blind Bartimaeus' eyes." The message ends in a prayer and an appeal for hands to be raised, with no room for an altar call around the altar.
